The Pozitron Diagnosztika Center in Oradea has gradually demonstrated that the PET/CT investigation has a decisive role in oncological diagnosis.
Optimizing Patient Preparation for PET/CT Imaging
A General Applicable Protocol Is Presented Below
In order for the organization of our center to be as good and efficient as possible for you, the collection of personal data will be done by the public relations department, where our staff needs your cooperation in completing the data in the registration form so that later on set a date for the PET-CT examination.
Once the appointment is established, you will be prepared for the examination procedure so that everything is in accordance with the requirements of a correct examination!
In short, we offer you some details regarding the PET-CT examination technique and we ask that the protocol regarding your preparation before the examination be strictly followed:
Patients With Diabetes
The following recommendations apply to patients with diabetes:
Type I / II diabetes (controlled by insulin or oral medication).
The FDG PET/CT study should preferably be performed in the morning and patients should follow the rest rules indicated above.
Patients continue to take oral or injectable medications to control their blood sugar.
Ideally, an attempt should be made to achieve normal blood glucose values before the FDG PET/CT study, in consultation with the patient and attending physician.
Pregnancy And Breast-Feeding
Pregnancy (suspected or confirmed):
Pregnancy implies a major contraindication for performing the PET/CT examination, there are still some situations in which this diagnostic procedure is applicable by clinical decision as long as the benefits are greater than the risks.
In case of breastfeeding:
ICRP does not recommend stopping breastfeeding after FDG administration because a small amount of FDG is excreted in milk [EANM pg 25]. However, because the lactating breast accumulates FDG it is suggested that contact between mother and child be limited for 12 hours after FDG injection to reduce the radiation dose the child receives from external exposure to radiation emitted by the mother. It is recommended.
Patient Preparation And Radiotracer Activation
Our medical team will focus on your preparation, including the injection procedure and the radiotracer activation period (approximately one hour). During this time, you will remain in the activation room under continuous supervision.
Communication And Cooperation During The Scan
The scan is the final procedure, and communication between you and the PET-CT technician is crucial. The quality of the image depends on your cooperation, so it’s important to discuss any concerns or misunderstandings before starting the examination.
Post-Examination Guidelines And Follow-Up
After the procedure, you can resume daily activities, but avoid direct contact with small children or pregnant women for at least 12 hours. Drink plenty of fluids to help eliminate the radiotracer. Examination results will be sent within 5 working days. If you have any doubts, please contact us for clarification.
